Quick start checklist

Let's go

Five quick tasks. You'll actually know how to use IAN after this.

✅ Task 1: Ask it something dumb (2 min)

Start a chat. Ask anything.

"What's the capital of France?" "How do I make pancakes?" "Explain quantum computing to a 5-year-old?"

  1. Click New Chat in the left sidebar
  2. Type your question in the input area (below the greeting)
  3. Press Enter or click the ⏺️ send button

Point: Get comfortable with the interface. See that it responds. Realize you didn't break anything.

After: You've used the chat. You know how the basics work.

✅ Task 2: Upload and analyze a document (3 min)

Find a document on your computer. PDF, Word doc, whatever.

  1. Click New Chat in the left sidebar
  2. Click the + button on the left side of the input area
  3. Pick your document from the file browser
  4. Type: "What's the main point?" or "Summarize this" or "Find [specific thing]"
  5. Press Enter or click the ⏺️ send button

Point: Experience how IAN reads your actual files, not just guesses from training data.

After: You know documents work. You know how to analyze files.

✅ Task 4: Draft something (2 min)

Ask IAN to write something for you.

"Draft an email asking for [thing]" or "Write an outline for [project]" or "Help me brainstorm ideas for [topic]"

Read what it produces. Hate it? Ask it to rewrite: "Make it shorter" or "Sound more professional" or "Add an example."

Point: IAN is useful for getting words on the page fast. You can iterate.

After: You know IAN can help with writing, not just questions.

✅ Task 5: Save a chat (1 min)

Go back to one of your chats in the left sidebar.

Right-click the chat name and select Pin to keep it at the top of your list.

Or right-click and select Download to export it as PDF, Markdown, or JSON.

Go to the sidebar. Your pinned chat is at the top. Your downloaded file is on your computer.

Point: You can keep things. Important conversations don't get lost.

After: You know how to organize your work.

🎉 You're done

You've now:

  • ✅ Asked questions
  • ✅ Uploaded and analyzed a document
  • ✅ Used IAN for writing
  • ✅ Organized your work

That's the core of IAN. Everything else is just variations on these five things.
